Sandwiched between gobs of pasta and fries on any restaurant menu, you can almost always find –or customize–something green and lean. Whether you live in Hong Kong or are just visiting town, these salads will soon become your go-to meal of choice and a reliable way to keep light and healthy at lunchtime. Here are my 10 favorite salads in Hong Kong, bon appetite!
My Favorite Salads in Hong Kong
Wagyu’s Fattoush Salad
Located in the heart of the action, this buzzing place has something for everyone. But do you know how great their fresh salads are? Order the fattoush salad without the bread and it’s basically a fantastically huge Mediterranean vegetable delight. Ask for it without feta cheese and you’re in vegan heaven. This salad’s so big you’ll certainly be full until dinnertime.
JW Marriott Salad Bar
When it comes to lunch, there’s nothing I get more excited about than a good salad bar. There’s also nothing more disappointing than a bad one. Come hungry to the best salad bar in town and get ready for a feast. The bowls are so huge you won’t be able to finish your healthy mid-day meal.
Tokyo Joe’s Seared Salmon Salad
Tokyo Joe’s is a Hong Kong institution, nestled in the heart of Lan Kwai Fong for over 20 years. They have some superb salads on their menu, but my favorite is the seared salmon, which sits on top of greens lightly dressed with sweetened vinegar.
Four Season’s Pool Terrace Nicoise Salad
The only thing better than a fresh nicoise salad is a fresh nicoise salad with a view at the Four Seasons. The Pool Terrace is a peaceful oasis in the city and never disappoints. Come for good food, great service, and an afternoon of serenity.
Limewood’s Salmon Tartare
True, this isn’t really a salad, but the satisfying mix of succulent and flavorful salmon tartar topped with crispy greens constitutes the perfect light lunch “salad” in my book. With a killer view of the beach, your tummy and your soul will leave happy!
The Ritz Carlton’s Organic Salad Bar
An all-you-can-eat lunch at the organic salad bar at the Ritz Carlton includes everything from lettuce to 18 types of extras. If you can make the trek to the dark side of Kowloon, this fancy-shmancy salad bar will be worth your visit.
Yardbird’s Mushroom Salad
Associating Yardbird with healthy food may feel like a stretch, but look carefully at their menu and you’ll be delighted by hidden treasures like succulent Brussels sprouts and a great selection of small salads. My absolute favorite is their mushroom salad.
Zuma’s Watercress Salad
Watercress is a powerhouse of nutrients and has the most tantalizing peppery essence. At Zuma, they complement the super-plant with avocado and a creamy wasabi dressing. Drool. Try their Zuma salad too – another one of my faves.
Mandarin Grill & Bar’s Salad in a Flower Pot
This may not score highest on the taste scale, but the creativity of the presentation alone is worth the order. The restaurant’s signature salad is an entirely edible blossoming bouquet. Served in a terracotta pot, even the “soil” is edible.
Lentil De Puy Salad at Ivy
Ivy is a beautiful new restaurant in IFC with stunning views of the harbor. Enjoy the scenery and the French Riviera style lentil salad here.
