What makes someone a “fitness fashionista”? It’s not just that she looks as good working out as she does in stilettos. More importantly she’s someone who is as comfortable on the inside as she looks on the outside.
Meet Sadie MacLeod of Hip & Healthy.
Before our inaugural Fitness Fashionista became master of the incredibly stylish activewear store and online fitness magazine, the London girl was retail editor at Conde Nast Traveller, secretly running 10K every morning and dodging going to the pub.
“Back when I first set up Hip & Healthy, health and fitness wasn’t actually that cool in the UK. We had this pub culture so I’d turn up at the pub and wouldn’t drink that much because I’d be going on a 10k run the next day. All of my friends would be like ‘oh you loser’,” she told Huffington Post in an interview last year.
While on sabbatical from Conde Nast she joined her then boyfriend (now husband) in a stint to Hong Kong, where she began investigating ways to fuse her love of fitness — and her knack of picking an incredibly good workout outfit — with her journalism skills. The result is the vibrant Hip & Healthy platform, an online shop full of must-have items guaranteed to motivate, a fitness magazine, “fitspiration” and more. We are delighted to have Sadie kicking off MAYYA Movement’s brand spanking-new monthly Fitness Fashionista column.

MAYYA Movement: What is your “look” when it comes to fitness fashion?
Sadie Macleod: I love a print legging with a classic white tee and my black Nike iD’s. I like to keep things simple but with a flash of pattern or color to introduce a bit of something different as well.
MM: What makes Hip & Healthy different and why should people shop there?
Sadie: We can personally vouch for all the items in the store as we have tried and tested every brand to make sure that the clothes we sell are durable as well as fashionable. They can’t just look good (although that is important), they need to perform excellently as well.
MM: Who is your fitness idol?
Sadie: I am totally in awe of Jessica Ennis who had a baby the same time as me and is in better shape than ever!! She is a fitspo and a mumspo in one!
MM: Where do you get your style inspiration from?
Sadie: I want to say Vogue… But it is probably more likely to be Instagram.

MAYYA Movement’s Picks
“I fell in love with these pants on first sight. They reach a perfect balance between playful, bold yet feminine — exactly how I want to feel while running on sweating it out in hot yoga. Made from beautiful fabric, they’ll feel as good on as they look. Couple with the Jungle Fever T Back Bra for the complete look.” – Rachel, Managing Editor
Jungle Fever Active Leggings
“These hair bands are awesome. NO KINKS!” – Rachel, Managing Editor
No Kinky Stuff! Hair Ties
“Can I have one more, pretty please? These retro pants are handsome, functional and sporty. They almost look too good to run in.” – Rachel, Managing Editor
Parna Pant
“I have a weird obsession with gym bags — actually all bags. But this on-trend bag style means I can stay stylish when I go from work to working out.” – Katie, Digital Media Manager
GymTote- Eva
“Sometimes super tight workout tops are a bit too revealing for me (I go tomato-red any time I workout so there’s no chance of ever looking good) so this loose-fitting variation is just for me. It’s light, breathable and I love the pull-tie at the waste so muffin-tops can stay hidden while in Downward Dog.” – Katie, Digital Media Manager
