Healthy Hong Kong Mooncakes

The humble mooncake, a Chinese pastry eaten during the Mid Autumn Festival, has been reinvented. And thank the Lunar Gods for that! A typical mooncake will set you back 1,000 unhealthy calories — half a day’s worth. But not MAYYA Movement’s handpicked alternatives. Gone is the flour, the salted duck eggs, the generous lashing of lard and vegetable oil, replaced with healthy raw, organic and vegan alternatives.

Read on to learn more about our suggestions for five alternatives for healthy Hong Kong mooncakes this year.

1. Green Vitamin’s Raw Organic Coconut Mooncakes

Check out these healthy Hong Kong mooncake beauties from local online food store Green Vitamin, known for their organic produce and healthy creations.

Six delectable flavors are on offer: white almond, dark velvet cacao, green tea with moringa, strawberry, cinnamon and original. Get ordering! HKD 388 for a box of six. Read more or order here.

2. FoodCraft Hong Kong’s Raw Organic Vegan Mooncake

Foodcraft also make a scrumptious coconut based Coconut and Lemon mooncake, but we are particularly fond of their Raw Cacao option, which features raw cacao oats, dates and goji berries. A box of four 50 gram mooncakes costs HKD 160. Make sure you order here by September 16!

3. Divine Raw Mooncakes by Anything But Salads

Promising Hong Kong’s “first and only organic, raw, vegan paleo and gluten-free superfood mooncakes,” the delights from Anything But Salads are not to be missed. They are crafted by ABS’s own pro chef team and, we are told, feature cashews and coconut milk. A limited batch of 50 boxes of four mooncakes are on offer for HKD 198 if you get in quick by ordering here

She’s offering a Raw Vegan Mooncake class on the 22nd of September in Kennedy Town. Cost: HKD 680 or a 10% discount for bookings of two or more people. Learn more here.
