Brussels sprouts are an underrated veggie. While they often get a bad rap, they’re one of the most nutritious veggies on the planet. And, when prepared just right, they are quite scrumptious. Often times my Brussels-based dishes leave my dinner guests saying, “Seconds please!” And that’s really the test to a good recipe, don’t you think?
This sweet yet spicy side dish is the perfect accompaniment to pretty much any protein — steak, chicken, or even a perfectly seared salmon. Or, mix them into some greens for a satisfying salad.
Once you’ve made these Brussels sprouts, flip through my book FOOD YOU WANT For The Life You Crave for even more ways to jazz them up. Trust me, it’s all about how you cook and season um’. Master those two elements and you’ll become a Brussels sprout extraordinaire!
Crispy Brussels Sprouts With Sweet and Spicy Glaze
Crispy Brussels Sprouts With Sweet and Spicy Glaze
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons olive oil
- 6 cups Brussels Sprouts, cut in half
- 2 tablespoons tamari
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce
To Serve
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- ½ cup toasted sesame seeds
- Chopped green onion
- Squeeze of lime, optional
Instructions
-
Heat oil in a large fry pan. You might need two pans depending on how large yours is because you don’t want to crowd the Brussels sprouts.
-
Add Brussels sprouts and cook in an even, flat layer on high heat. Fry on one side then flip, about 3 minutes total. Watch out for flying oil poppers!
-
Meanwhile, whisk tamari, maple, and sriracha in a small bowl. Set aside.
-
Add sauce and toss until Brussels sprouts start to brown, another 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat when done.
-
Season with salt, pepper, sesame seeds, and green onion. Squeeze a splash of lime on top, if desired. Serve immediately.
