As a sun lover and outdoor enthusiast, I’ve always cherished the warm embrace of the sun’s rays on my skin. I was that girl baking in a bikini on the beach, addicted to the tan lines and my skins “healthy” glow.
However, my perspective on sun exposure took a significant turn in my 40s when I started to notice hyperpigmentation and the first signs of sun damage from all of those naïve years.
I’ve since been incorporating sunscreen into my skincare routine and I’ve noticed significant improvements in my skin’s health and appearance.
Sunscreen has become my secret weapon against premature aging, helping to keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay, helping with my broken capillaries and first signs of rosacea.
This new routine has also helped maintain a more even skin tone and reduced the appearance of dark spots caused by sun exposure. And obviously, using sunscreen is not just about taking care of our skin; it’s about taking care of ourselves. By protecting our skin from harmful UV rays, we reduce the risk of skin cancer and prioritize long-term well-being.
Here are a few of the best sunscreens I’ve found. To purchase any item, go to my Shop page here and expand the Beauty section. I hope you enjoy this short curated list and start sunscreening!
La Roche Posay
My dermatologist suggested La Roche Posay sunscreen to protect my cheeks because they go so red in the sun. This is by far my new favorite (and one of the best sunscreens available). It glides on easily and feels light and refreshing and really protects me from the rays.
Supergoop!
The Supergoop! Glow Stick is the only sunscreen my son agrees to use! It glides beautifully and is easy for kids to apply themselves. It’s also a cute little travel size so get a few and keep them in your summer beach bags and in your kids knapsacks.
Dr Barbara Sturm
Firstly, I am so sorry for introducing you to the world of Barbara Sturm (the price tag… I know!). But I’ve been really loving her skincare and these sun drops!
Herbal Face Food
I love this cream and use it day and night as a wonderful anti-aging cream, however, this is currently being tested for its 50+ SPF properties, here’s what the company says:
**SPF Special Notice: The Cream has a 50+ SPF rating according to our internal testing, studies and documentation. External 3rd party studies are currently processing and will be available in the near future once testing is completed.
What I do is use it in the morning but still spray the sunbum spray (below) over it as a further precaution. Either way, I love how this cream makes my skin feel and the appeal of it really being a natural sunscreen is very exciting.
Don’t forget to use the discount code FLEXIBLECHEF for 20% off your first order.
Sunbum
I spray the Original SPF 45 Sunscreen Face Mist on top of my regular sunscreen. I especially love it for the back of the neck and chest–areas that we often forget about. Keep this by your front door or in your car and use it as an extra shield on top of your SPF moisturizer!
Always remember
Use sunscreen as the final step in your morning skincare routine and remember to pack it with you for the day and reapply every two hours if you’re in direct contact with the sun.
