Versions of this marinara sauce are a staple in our house. The versatility is endless — add finely chopped up sautéed veggies for a more robust sauce or sprinkle in some chopped jalapeño for an extra kick of heat. Use the recipe below as your base. Then, take a peek inside your fridge and get creative. This stuff is better than the bottled stuff you’ll get at the store. My advice? Make big batches and freeze. That way, a delicious pasta sauce, pizza topper, or even dip is always within arm’s reach. In the photo above, I added this sauce to a bowl of roasted cauliflower and then topped with a little cheese — yummm!

Marinara Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
- Butter/oil for sautéing
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can crushed or whole tomatoes
- 3-4 tablespoons tomato paste
- Splash white wine
Instructions

In a medium pot, sauté onions in butter or oil until translucent and fragrant

Add garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes

Add canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and wine

Season with salt and pepper

Simmer for a minimum of one hour, or until sauce reduces and thickens
