Ahhh simplicity. There’s something magical in perfecting simplicity, isn’t there?
And when it comes to the quest for the perfect oven French fries, there’s a big difference between oil-drenched soggy fries with no luster, and the crisp, salty perfection of a delectable pomme frite!
Here’s my recipe and instructions on how you can make your fries truly salivating. In my house these fries never make it to the table — my hungry eaters sneak these as they come out of the oven. My advice? Make a big batch!
The Perfect Oven French Fries Recipe
The Perfect Oven French Fries
Ingredients
- 6 Idaho potatoes
- Olive oil
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 150°C.
-
Rinse your potatoes and pat them dry. You must make sure they are completely dry before roasting.
-
Slice potatoes into long, thin wedges.
-
In a large mixing bowl, coat potatoes in olive oil and sprinkle with salt and a little pepper.
-
Place on a baking sheet in a flat layer. Now here's the important part, make sure the potatoes don’t overlap or they will steam instead of crisp!
-
BE patient! They can take up to two hours to cook.
-
Flip often to ensure even browning. You may also want to rotate shelves in the oven to find the perfect heat.
-
Towards the end of roasting you may increase oven to 200°C to crisp.
-
Season with additional salt right before serving, if needed.
Recipe Notes
I serve these like “bread” with mezzo dips in my gluten-free home!
